Astringent

Astringents tone and tighten tissues to slow the loss of body fluids. They are taken internally and topically and are helpful for diarrhea, heavy menstrual bleeding, urinary tract infections or any abnormal discharge.

  • Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) – for internal and external bleeding
  • Oak bark (Quercus alba)
  • Wild Geranium or Cranesbill (Geranium maculatum)
  • Agrimony (Agrimonia gryposepula)
  • Witch hazel bark (Hamamelis virginiana) – used externally
  • Horsetail (Equisetum arvense)
  • Blackberry root (Rubus fruticosus)
  • Vinca (Vinca major)
  • Meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria)
