Alterative

Alteratives were also called “blood cleansers” – and while they do aid toxin elimination and enhance nutrition delivery to tissues and organ systems, tasks supported by clean blood – their affect on the blood results from their action on metabolic organs. Alteratives also improve lymphatic circulation, boost immunity and decongest the liver through improving the efficacy of metabolism. They help chronic skin conditions, poor digestion, and immune weakness. I think they also aid by providing deep mineral nutrition. Most Alterative herbs also have special “niches” they excel in addressing.

  • Burdock (Arctium lappa) – balanced action on all metabolic organs and processes
  • Calendula (Calendula officinalis) – stimulates flow of bile for proper metabolism of oils
  • Red clover (Trifolium pratense) – metabolic diuretic (stimulates removal of intracellular waste via kidneys)
  • Yellow dock (Rumex crispus) – works strongly on lower gastrointestinal tract
  • Nettles (Urtica dioica) – improves adrenal processes
  • Cleavers (Gallium aparine) – lymphatic tonic
  • Red Root (Ceonothus americanus) – lymphatic tonic
  • Milky Oats (Avena sativa) – improves adrenal processes
